Norwalk school officials: Teachers should take 1-year pay freeze
School officials in Norwalk told a packed school board meeting Monday night that serious budget cuts being planned for the new year could be avoided if teachers would accept a pay freeze.
According to officials, the budget is $8 million short and that 80 percent of their spending goes toward salaries and benefits of teachers.
The meeting, held at Norwalk City Hall, was set up in order for school officials to get the public's input.
School officials stated they will continue talking with the teacher's union before making their final cuts.
