Greenwich residents spooked by bear sighting

Greenwich residents say they are still spooked after a black bear was spotted and tranquilized in broad daylight Wednesday. Authorities say the 155-pound female bear was captured in the backyard of a Hamilton Avenue home. Wildlife officials say this particular bear was from New Jersey, and that it is not uncommon for the animals to wander long distances. Conservation experts say bears have been spotted in Greenwich for at least the past 10 years, and that residents can keep them away by securing their garbage and taking down their bird feeders. Once sedated, the bear was released into a state forest. Bear removed from Greenwich yard after being tranquilized
