Officials close Norwalk beach due to high levels of bacteria
Norwalk officials closed off the water at Calf Pasture Beach today because high levels of bacteria may have been released into the water from a nearby sewage treatment plant.
The leakage was caused by the heavy rains that swept through the area earlier in the weekend. The contaminants were noticed by Norwalk firefighters Sunday morning as they were checking their fireboat. The firefighters than contacted the health department, which shut the water down for swimming.
Officials say the beach should reopen within a few days after the health department finishes testing the water.
