Bridgeport student wrongly withheld from graduation

A Bridgeport woman says she is furious with her son's high school after he was mistakenly sent to summer school and missed his graduation. Brenda Darden says her son, Jahquest Boyd, was prepared to receive his diploma June 19 when officials at Bassick High School called to tell her he could not participate in the ceremony. A school counselor said Boyd couldn't walk because he had failed U.S. history, but yesterday informed him that the school made a mistake and that he should have graduated on time. Bridgeport School Superintendent Paul Vallas admits the school was in error. He also says he will repay Darden for the cap and gown and will waive the $100 summer school fee.
