Darien High School hires police officer
The principal of Darien High School says this is the first year they've had a police officer on campus working with the students every day.
Officials say the policeman isn't there because of any particular incident. Officer James Palmieri has been hired as the school's student resource officer.
"Typically kids deal with police in a negative way," said Palmieri. "They see police officers just as an enforcement role."
Palmieri wants to change that image by going into classrooms and answering questions about the bill of rights, search and seizure, drugs and alcohol or any other topic the students want to know more about.
If all goes well at the school, Palmieri hopes to be in the position for the long-term.
