Car crashes into New Canaan garage, catches fire

Officials are investigating in New Canaan tonight after a driver reportedly lost control of his car and crashed into the garage of a home.

Police say the driver was exiting the Merritt Parkway when his car crashed into the side of a garage and caught fire on White Birch Road.

Neighbor John Tosone says he estimates the out-of-control vehicle was speeding down the street at around 70 mph.

Firefighters battled flames that erupted after the crash. They say a second car parked inside the garage was damaged.

Police say the driver has minor injuries, but is expected to be OK.

Investigators are still looking into the cause of the crash.
