2 Stamford store employees charged with attacking alleged robber

Two convenience store employees in Stamford are facing charges after police say they held a customer against his will and then beat him up.

Employees at an Atlantic Street convenience store say a man who allegedly stole a $10 item from their shelves Tuesday night returned to the store again on Wednesday.

Sanjay Patel says he and his co-worker, Savio Cardozza, were afraid the man was going to rob them again, so they locked the door to the store and fought back with a baseball bat.

Police say the two had no right to take the law into their own hands, despite the fact that the man may have stolen from them.

The man was not seriously hurt during the assault. Police say he could face charges for shoplifting.

Patel and Cardozza are both facing assault charges.
