A nonprofit pet food pantry is teaming up with the Stamford Animal Shelter to offer relief to families who say they can't afford to care for their pets.
STARelief, the organization running the pet food pantry, provides food and pet care items to struggling families.
Heather Scutti, who runs STARelief, says her aim is to prevent people from being forced into surrendering animals at the shelter.
"Some people are having financial difficulty," Scutti says. "It doesn't mean they're not good pet owners."
