2 teens injured in crash on Knapps Highway
Fairfield police say a teenage girl is in critical condition after the Jeep in which she was riding crashed into a utility pole Wednesday morning.
Police say the 17- year-old driver and the 19-year-old passenger were leaving Fairfield Warde High School, though they aren't sure why they were leaving.
They say the Jeep hit a curb, then the passenger side slammed into the pole.
Part of Knapps Highway was closed for most of the day as utility crews replaced the pole.
Police say the passenger, who is about to graduate from high school, suffered life-threatening injuries. Both girls were taken to St. Vincent's Medical Center and the driver has been released.
The passenger has since been taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital.
