Vigil being held to mourn 2 children found dead
Community members gathered in East Haven Friday evening to mourn two children who were found dead inside their mother's home earlier this week.
The memorial gathering at the Town Green was organized by neighbors. They say they wanted to help the community heal and offer comfort to the children's father, Michael Moore.
Moore attended the memorial, where he said he was overwhelmed by the love.
Daaron, 8, and Aleisha, 6, were found dead Tuesday. Officials say their home was filled with natural gas.
Police say the children's mother was in the home and was hospitalized after trying to commit suicide.
No charges have been filed as police continue to investigate how the house came to be filled with gas.
The children's father spoke with News 12 and said his ex-wife, LeRoya Moore, lived with the children at the home for about a year. He saw them often. He declined to speculate on what happened.
The vigil was slated to be held at 8:15 p.m. outside of the home where the children lived and died, but organizers say it was relocated due to expectations of a large turnout.
Many attendees say they didn't know the children, but felt compelled to be there.
