DMV slated to close next month for upgrades

The state Department of Motor Vehicles say all of its branches will be closed for one week next month for a major computer upgrade.

Officials say the shutdown will take place from Tuesday Aug. 11, through Saturday Aug. 15.

They say the new system will give customers access to more services online, and will enable them to check information and requirements to avoid return trips to the DMV.

Officials say the expiration dates of all driver's licenses, vehicle registrations and ID cards are being extended to Oct. 10 to allow the DMV to catch up.
