Invasive beetle species threatens Westport pine tree population
Officials in Westport today gave the trees at Longshore Park a clean bill of health after discovering a potentially threatening insect infestation of other trees in town.
The town's tree warden says they did the inspections after finding the South Pine Bark Beetle on nine trees in town.
Warden Bruce Lindsay says homeowners should take time to inspect their own trees for damage.
The tree warden says if you see signs of the popcorn-like resin on your pine trees, contact an arborist.
