Animal control shelter closes amid virus outbreak
A Bridgeport Animal Control facility is temporarily closed due to a canine parvo virus outbreak.
Bridgeport Communications Director Brett Broesder says three of the 53 dogs in the shelter have come in contact with the virus.
Broesder says the outbreak is a common problem encountered by animal shelters and that the facility will not bring any other animals on the premises at this time.
He says Animal Control is taking the necessary steps to ensure the virus does not spread.
Officials say they are working with neighboring towns to maintain other Animal Control shelters in the city.
The Bridgeport shelter will reopen August 20.
Officials urge people who are in need of animal assistance to contact the Bridgeport hotline at 203-576-1311.
