Mianus River Bridge renamed to honor late selectman
The Mianus River Bridge over Route 1 in Greenwich was renamed on Sunday.
Officials held a dedication ceremony to unveil the new name: The Honorable David Noble Theis Memorial Bridge. It's a tribute to Greenwich native and former Selectman Dave Theis, who died in December.
Officials say Theis was one of the chief organizers of the annual American flag display on the bridge. They say Theis will always be remembered for his sense of humor and willingness to lend a hand.
"Dave had an extremely big heart," says First Selectman Peter Tesei said. "He was always ready to give of himself to other people, particularly those less fortunate. He had an immense compassion for the men and women who serve in the military, our first responders and anyone whom was in need."
State Rep. Fred Camillo and former state Rep. David Scribner helped get the bridge renamed.
