Milford fisherman records humpback whale sighting
A Milford man recorded video of a humpback whale sighting in the Long Island Sound Tuesday near Charles Island.
Experts at Maritime Aquarium say that they have never heard of humpback whale sightings so close to Milford.
"I've been fishing in Milford my whole life, and I've never seen anything like it," says Mark Tutino, who took the video.
Experts say that there have been beluga whale sightings in the Long Island Sound, like the three spotted near Fairfield in May, but never a humpback.
The whale was likely a male who came in to feed, according to experts. They say males are the ones who tend to wander alone.
They also advise boaters and swimmers to keep their distance when whales are in the area.
