Fairfield police reward children for using crosswalks, wearing helmets near school
Kids in Fairfield got a special surprise this morning for remembering their safety skills on the first day of school.
Fairfield police were outside Sherman Elementary School giving students prizes for using the crosswalk and wearing helmets while riding their bikes.
Police say it is a way for the force to help remind students to follow safety rules.
Police also want to remind drivers to slow down, give pedestrians the right of way and to be mindful of their surroundings.
