Students stranded at school due to bus driver confusion
Confusion among bus drivers left some students stranded on the first day of school Thursday.
At least 15 children were still at Chapel Street Elementary School several hours after the school day ended because no buses came to pick them up.
Stratford Superintendent Janet Robinson says before school starts, drivers get a list of places where students are supposed to be dropped off. The confusion arose because the list wasn't updated on Thursday.
"As they were putting the children on the bus, the drivers were saying, 'I'm not going to that neighborhood.' So, we kept probably about 15 students at the school because we didn't want to put them on the wrong buses," says Robinson.
Robinson says the list of routes was updated Friday, and in the future they'll make sure the lists are updated before the start of the school year to prevent this situation from happening again.
