38th annual Oyster Festival draws large crowds

Many families and couples flocked to Veterans Park Friday for the start of the 38th annual Oyster Festival.
Some of the 1,200 volunteers at the event began setting up as early as 6:00 a.m. Friday.
Organizers say the weekend will be filled with performances. John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band will perform Friday night, Dennis De Young Saturday and Smash Mouth will be headlining Sunday.
Organizers also say that this year's festival will feature more food vendors, arts and crafts, craft beer tasting and oysters.
Tickets are $10 for Friday night and $12 Saturday and Sunday.
Proceeds from the oysters will go to maintaining the Sheffield Island Lighthouse and the 49-person Ferry that transports people back-and-forth from the site.
Gates will remain open until 10:15 p.m. Friday. The festival resumes Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
