US senator to announce drone safety plan

U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer, of New York, says he plans to introduce legislation this week that would keep drones away from airports and major event centers.

Schumer's proposal requires all unmanned aircraft have geo-fencing technology that keeps them at least two miles from any airport and prevents them from flying above 500 feet.

Schumer says a recent drone crash into an empty set of seats at the U.S. Open shows how dangerous it can be if drones aren't kept out of protected airspace.
