A Bridgeport woman says she's lucky to be alive after being struck by an SUV and thrown 20 feet last week.
Yvonne Temann, who was just released from the hospital, says she had the right-of-way and was in the crosswalk when she was struck by a black Cadillac Escalade.
"I was in extreme pain when she hit me, the breath was knocked out of me," said Temann.
Temann says she is disturbed by the accident because the female driver behind the wheel did not yield to her. She is now calling for drivers to slow down in her neighborhood.
Temann tells News 12 that she broke her arm and fractured several bones and ribs. She says she is in pain and that it's extremely difficult to walk.
City officials say the incident is a common problem and drivers need to be more careful, especially when making left turns because it's up to the driver, not the pedestrian, to yield.
Police say they are still investigating the accident and add that the driver is cooperating with them.
City officials say they will look into the configuration of the lights where the accident occurred, as well as other areas in the area.
Temann says she will take her concerns to the Bridgeport City Council as soon as she is well enough.
