Funeral held for Redding student who died in South Africa

Family and friends said their final goodbyes Saturday to a Redding college student who died while studying abroad.



As News 12 reported, 19-year-old Nicholas Upton died after going missing while swimming off the coast of South Africa.



His funeral was held at the St. Pius X Parish in Fairfield.



Friends of the George Washington University student attended the service wearing bowties and Hawaiian shirts in honor of Upton's favorite attire.



Upton leaves behind his parents, step-parents, a brother and step-sisters.
