Sudden closure of beauty school upsets students
Dozens of students at the Marinello School of Beauty in Fairfield packed up their supplies Thursday after the school announced that it is closing its locations nationwide.
The announcement came after regulators accused the school of engaging in deceptive practices, including overcharging its students for makeup hours and not delivering programs it promised.
The U.S. Department of Education announced Monday that it cut off financial assistance to Marinello.
Students, some of whom paid $22,000 to attend, say they do not know what they are going to do.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal says students can apply for loan forgiveness through the U.S. Department of Education. The Connecticut Office of Higher Education says it can also provide some assistance to students.
The school's doors will be officially closed starting Friday.
