March of Dimes walks to fight infant mortality

Hundreds of people gathered in Fairfield Sunday for the annual March of Dimes March for Babies.

Organizers estimate close to 300 people came out for the fundraiser, which was held at Jennings Beach.

They say money raised from it will benefit the March of Dimes organization, which works to prevent birth defects, premature births and infant deaths through research, education, advocacy and community programs.

Many people at the event say they have personal connections to the organization.

Officials say they hoped to meet their goal of raising $100,000.

News 12 Connecticut was a sponsor of the event, and News 12 Connecticut's Gillian Neff was the emcee.
