Mother's Day draws gardeners to garden centers

Mother's Day is big business for floral shops and according to the National Retail Federation, Americans will spend $2.4 billion on flowers for mom this year.

Beyond bouquets, much of money is also spent in garden centers for residents' front yards.

Gardeners at the Gardeners Center and Florist in Darien say it's a tradition to start planting in the garden on Mother's Day as the weather starts to warm up.

Some were worried that the tradition would be delayed as the weather lately has been less than ideal. Owner Kris Baker is hoping the sun will stay out so that people can begin planting flowers and vegetables without worrying about the frost.
