Metro-North to run on 'enhanced Saturday schedule' on Thursday following fire
Metro-North says it will run on an "enhanced Saturday schedule" for Thursday as it makes repairs due to an East Harlem fire.
The schedule will provide additional trains during peak travel periods and represents 75 percent of capacity, according to the railroad.
Metro-North officials say temporary repairs have been made following Tuesday evening's raging fire in East Harlem. Metro-North engineers spent Wednesday installing six temporary supports columns. Officials say those columns must be tested using real trains before full service can resume.
"These are beams that have been cut to do the temporary repair, so that we can take the load off that column, transfer it to another section, open up the center two tracks of that structure and restore normal service," says Tom Prendergass, MTA CEO.
