Fairfield Marine Unit rescues boater from LI Sound

Fairfield police say a boater was rescued Tuesday after being stranded on Long Island Sound.

Police say a passer-by saw the boater waving his hands in distress and called 911.

The Fairfield police Marine Unit was able to reach the man and bring him to safety.

News 12 Connecticut was told that the boater misjudged the depth of the water, hit rocks and damaged his engine. At the time of the incident, he had no way of steering his vessel.

There were no injuries.
