Police: Man found with 28 Ibs. of heroin facing charges
A Chicago man who police say had 28 pounds of heroin in his car in Stratford was in court Wednesday.
Police say Jose Adorno had a backpack filled with 28 pounds of heroin in the trunk of his car.
Police say he was arrested for possession and intent to sell more than $1 million worth of heroin.
Troopers say they found the drugs in Adorno's car Tuesday afternoon after an officer saw him drifting in and out of his lane and pulled him over on the northbound side of the Merritt Parkway in Stratford.
Court papers show Adorno told state police he was on his way to East Hartford to see his sister when he was pulled over.
Officials say they hope this bust makes a dent as they try to fight the growing heroin epidemic.
"It's a very big problem. Connecticut had the third-most deaths nationally, of deaths from opiates and heroin per 100,000 people," says Dr. Jeremy Barowsky from Greenwich Hospital.
Adorno is due back in court in June.
