Funeral held for Stratford man killed in wrong-way crash
A U.S. Army medic from Stratford killed in a crash last week on Route 8 was laid to rest Tuesday.
Wake services were held Monday in Bridgeport for Fernando Moreno-Rivas. His funeral took place at Holy Family Church in Fairfield.
Police say Moreno-Rivas died when a car driving north in the southbound lane slammed into him on Route 8 in Shelton last Thursday.
Loved ones described him as a man devoted to his job in the military and to his young daughter, Arianna. Moreno-Rivas grew up in the area and graduated from Notre Dame Catholic High School in Fairfield.
Family says he served in Afghanistan, and they never thought he'd lose his life in a car crash.
Moreno-Rivas was buried in Bridgeport with full military honors.
