The Newtown science teacher accused of bringing a loaded gun to school made a brief appearance in Danbury court Wednesday and had his hearing was pushed back.

 

Jason Adams, 46, is facing a felony charge of possession of a weapon on the school grounds of Newtown Middle School. In his court appearance, Adams' attorney asked for the court hearing to be pushed back. It is now scheduled for June 30.

 

Adams' defense attorney says he has obtained the prosecution's evidence, but still has tasks to take care of before the case moves forward.

 

The prosecution told the judge that the state attorney's office made an offer to Adams on Wednesday morning. No details were released but News 12 was told it would lead to a felony conviction for Adams.

 

On April 6, Adams was arrested after another Newtown Middle School employee noticed a concealed gun under his clothes. Police say he held a .45-caliber pistol, but believe no one was in danger.

 

Adams had a permit for the gun, but it is illegal to carry a loaded weapon in a school.

 

The Newtown School District says Adams is on administrative leave while an internal investigation takes place.

 

Adams had no comment as he left the courtroom.
