Pet killed in fire that damaged Stamford home

Some Stamford residents are trying to recover from a fire that killed a pet and damaged their homes.

The fire started around 9 p.m. Friday in a multifamily house on Orange Street. Heavy smoke and flames poured out of a second-floor window. Firefighters called in reinforcements to help battle the flames.

One family said one of their pets died, but several other pets escaped.

No major injuries were reported, and the Red Cross is assisting the families.
