Budget concerns may lead to summer program cuts

Bridgeport officials say they may have to cancel some school summer programs as they are forced to make tough budget decisions.
Lighthouse, a city-run program, says the Hallen School is among several facing the cuts. On Tuesday, officials sent a letter home to parents warning them of the potential cuts.
A school board member tells News 12 that the Board of Education voted to charge Lighthouse $500,000 to use its buildings starting July 1. In the 20 years Hallen School has partnered with Lighthouse, officials say they have never been charged rent. In light of the budget deficit, however, they say tough decisions must be made.
The Board of Education will hold a meeting next Monday to discuss to issue.
