The Monroe community is mourning the loss of a volunteer firefighter who died in a motorcycle crash.
The crash happened on Main Street near Stanley Road around 7 p.m. Monday.
Monroe police say 24-year-old Forrest Ryan was not wearing a helmet when he crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with an SUV.
The Monroe Volunteer Fire Department says Ryan joined the department in 2009 and had been an active firefighter serving the community.
The department describes him as hardworking, someone who always shared a smile or a joke and never hesitated to help out another member.
News 12 is told Ryan was raised in Monroe and graduated from Masuk High School.
