Funeral services held for volunteer firefighter from Monroe

Funeral services were held for a volunteer firefighter from Monroe killed in a motorcycle accident.

Monroe police say 24-year-old Forrest Ryan was not wearing a helmet when he crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with an SUV on Monday. The incident occurred on Stanley Road.

The Monroe Volunteer Fire Department says Ryan joined the department in 2009 and had been an active firefighter serving the community.

The department describes him as hardworking, someone who always shared a smile or a joke and never hesitated to help out another member.

Services were held at St. Jude Church in Monroe.
