Police: Officer shot in ankle after standoff with barricaded resident

New Milford police say that an officer was shot in the ankle following a standoff with a barricaded resident on Sunday afternoon.



The incident happened on Candlewood Lake Road South near the intersection of Route 7 around 4 p.m.



Police say the suspect called 911 and claimed he was going to harm himself and had weapons.



They say shortly after they arrived on scene, the suspect fired at an officer, hitting him in the ankle.



Police say the man fired about six shots in his home before officers arrived. They say the suspect's mental condition is currently being evaluated.



The officer involved has been released from the hospital.
