Westport kicks off Fourth of July with fireworks
Hundreds of people headed to Westport Thursday night for an Independence Day fireworks show to start the holiday weekend.
The crowd gathered early at Compo Beach, where spectators tried to grab good vantage points.
Many wore patriotic outfits.
It was the 60th annual fireworks show put on by the Westport Police Athletic League.
High school and college students also received academic scholarships from Westport PAL and DARE.
Milford's fireworks display Friday has been postponed due to forecasts of rain.
