With summer vacation here, a local church is making sure kids don't go hungry at learning centers around the city.
Wilton Congregational Church dropped off nearly 25 of the free lunches Tuesday for kids at the Norwalk Housing Authority's learning center. The church says it has done this every year for the past five years or so.
There are five learning centers throughout the city and the housing authority says local churches step up all summer to make sure kids have healthy lunches.
Church members packed up more than 200 meals Tuesday morning and will continue to do so for the next few days.
The church says it partners with the Bridgeport Rescue Mission each summer.
Organizers say some of the kids get free or reduced-cost lunches during the school year, and the added costs during the summer can be a stretch for some families.
