'Pokemon Go' takes mobile gaming by storm
A new, free-to-play Pokemon game is taking the country by storm, and its effect can partially be seen by walking the streets of southwestern Connecticut.
"Pokemon Go" is a mobile game for the Android and iOS platforms in which players hold up their phones and travel around capturing Pokemon in the real world via augmented reality.
Matthews Park in Norwalk has become a hotspot for players, and more than a dozen of them were seen there Monday.
In addition to the unexpected boost in exercise, the game has also got more people heading to the library. The Norwalk Public Library, which has become a Pokestop where players can fill up on Pokeballs to catch the monsters, is seeing new visitors thanks to the game.
The addictive nature of the game is what has caused police to say it could be dangerous. Outside St. Louis, robbers used the game to lure in unsuspecting victims. A player in Wyoming stumbled upon a dead body while searching for Pokemon. There's also the risk of simply being unaware and walking into traffic.
Since last Wednesday, at least 7.5 million people have downloaded the app.
