Stratford boy wins national boxing championship

A 10-year-old boy from Stratford is now a national champion after winning the USA Boxing Junior Olympics in Dallas, Texas.

Joseph Chisholm took first place in the 80-pound division at the competition on June 30.

Martin Chisholm, his father and coach, says his son won his first two fights in Dallas by a unanimous decision, and then fought against a boy from Missouri in the title bout, winning a split decision.

Chisholm says he is very proud of his son.

"I trained for this hard. Hard work, dedication, you know," says Joseph Chisholm

Joseph's father also said it took his son nine fights in Connecticut to get to Dallas, including the State Silver Glove and State Junior Olympics competitions.

He represented the Stratford PAL boxing program.
