Connecticut takes new steps to control Zika virus

Gov. Dannel Malloy announced today that Connecticut is taking new steps to control the Zika virus.
State health officials are using traps throughout Fairfield and the rest of southwestern Connecticut to collect mosquitoes that could potentially spread the Zika virus.
Malloy said that no one locally has contracted Zika from mosquito transmission yet.
More than 500 people have been tested for the Zika virus, but there are only 31 confirmed cases in Connecticut.
Officials say labs around the state will begin testing approximately 10 individuals with Zika-like symptoms every week, even if they have not traveled to areas where the infections are occurring.
Health officials are reminding people that aside from the Zika virus, the West Nile virus remains a big threat in Connecticut.
So far this year, three people in the state have died from West Nile virus.
