Bridgeport residents released an online petition Thursday asking the Darien Police Department to apologize to a city man they say was the target of racial profiling by Darien officers.

The online petition says 33-year-old Matthew McGee was riding his bicycle to the Darien business where he works when police pulled him over on Sunday. McGee recorded the encounter with an iPhone and posted it on social media where it has since gone viral, racking up more than 450,000 views during the past few days.

In the video the officer tells McGee that there has been a burglary at a nearby residence, and she is helping to investigate. The Darien police chief says his officers acted professionally.

Though McGee says the officers' tone was polite and professional, he felt that they were singling him out as a man of color in a predominantly white community.

"What makes you think I'm not going to be upset?" says McGee. "You're stopping me and I'm watching my fellow brothers around America getting killed by officers for no reason!"

Community activist Wayne Winston has started an online petition asking that Darien police apologize to McGee and give officers "extra sensitivity training."

Darien Police Chief Duane Lovello says his officers did nothing wrong and that the department has nothing to apologize for.

McGee says he will be filing a formal complaint against the Darien Police Department.
