Norwalk police: Sex offender injured 2-year-old child

Norwalk police say a registered sex offender was arrested after causing serious injuries to a 2-year-old child.
Police began their investigation about two months ago when they received a report of child abuse from the Department of Children and Families. The probe showed that a 2-year-old girl had been taken to Norwalk Hospital.
Pedro Salinas, 31, was subsequently arrested and charged with assault and risk of injury to a minor. Police say he met the child's mother online and convinced her to move with her two young children from California to Salinas' Norwalk home. He then allegedly began abusing the youngest child.
Police say the child was transferred from Norwalk Hospital to Yale-New Haven Hospital because of the severity of her injuries.
The children are currently in the care of the state Department of Children and Families.
Salinas is being held on $150,000 bond.
