Police release info on weekend Stamford death
Police released information Monday about a weekend death in Stamford.
There was a large police presence at a home on Nichols Avenue, right off of High Road on Saturday afternoon.
Police say they were doing a welfare check on a man who lived there who'd been served a protective order the night before by his wife and been told to leave the house.
According to police, when his wife returned Saturday morning, his car was still there and he wasn't answering the phone so she called in police.
Police say they were told he had a history of alcohol problems and owned a gun so they didn't want to take any chances when they responded.
As a precaution, police say they brought in the SWAT team.
Police say the man failed to respond to phone calls or their bullhorn so they sent in a robot with a camera and found him dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
