2 swimmers rescued at Sherwood Island State Park
Police responded to Sherwood Island in Westport on Sunday after a call about up to three swimmers in distress.
When police arrived they found two swimmers, believed to be a father and teenage son, who'd been rescued by a bystander. One had water in his lungs and both went to the hospital.
Westport's dive team and marine units from Westport, Fairfield and Norwalk were called in to perform a search.
However, Westport police say they are confident that no one else is in the water, and they have now suspended the search.
No one has reported anyone missing, and there are no abandoned belongings on the beach.
The father and son, who were visiting from the Bronx, are in stable condition at the hospital.
