3 dead in Danbury single-car crash

Three people are dead following a single-car crash in Danbury Saturday morning, authorities say.
The mayor of Danbury says the crash followed a police chase that began in New York state just before 4:30 a.m. Saturday.
Police say the car had five people inside and was heading toward Connecticut on Route 6 when a New York sheriff's deputy attempted to pull the car over. Police say the driver was seen swerving.
The mayor says the deputy broke off the chase before entering Connecticut, but says the car continued at a high rate of speed.
When the officer arrived on the scene, he found the 2006 white Nissan Maxima had hit a traffic pole at the corner of Mill Plain and Mill Stone Road in Danbury.
The driver and four passengers were trapped inside the car and had to be extricated by the fire department. Three men, including the driver, were pronounced dead on the scene.
Two women were transported to Danbury Hospital, where one is listed in serious condition and the other has injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
Those involved in the crash have not yet been identified, but News 12 is told that a father is among them.
