Bipolar disorder blamed for Westport police shooting

The attorney for a man accused of shooting at two Westport police officers blamed the incident on his client's bipolar disorder.

Police say 42-year-old Louis Bovino faces a slew of charges, including attempted murder for the incident.

According to police, two officers were responding to a domestic dispute on Wilton Road Friday when Bovino, who was hiding in the back of a truck, allegedly shot at them. Police say the officers shot back. All three men were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The two officers have been put on administrative assignments. A judget cut Bovino's bond in half from $3 million to $1.5 million in court Monday.Bovino is not allowed to return home or contact his wife. His arraignment is scheduled to continue Aug. 5.
