Beachgoers attend Fairfield sand sculpting festival

Curious beachgoers and sandcastle lovers gathered at Penfield Beach Friday for the first-ever Penfield Beach Sand Sculpting Festival.The festival, hosted by the Fairfield Beach Residents Association, featured professional sculptor Sean Fitzpatrick.Fitzpatrick used almost nine tons of sand to build a replica of the Penfield Lighthouse. ?This sand is from Hudson, New Hampshire,? says Fitzpatrick. ?It?s quarried out of the ground.?Fitzpatrick says the sturdy sand sculpture can withstand the rain and could physically last until the first frost.
