Car burglary temporarily locks down Darien school

The search for a car burglary suspect Tuesday put an elementary school in Darien on lockdown.

Police say around 10 a.m., the car burglary suspect they had cornered near Hindley Elementary School got away. For two hours, during the search, police surrounded the campus on Nearwater Lane. No one was allowed to enter or leave the building during the lockdown.

According to police, ordering the lockdown was just a safety precaution. They say that students were never in any danger.

Parents were informed of the lockdown through the school?s e-mail notification system.

The lockdown was lifted at noon, but police were back on campus during dismissal.

No arrests have been made in the car burglary.
