Residents ask: Should I stay or should I go?
As the holiday weekend approaches, some travelers are heading out early to beat traffic while others are staying put due to gas prices.
Those opting to get out of town early hit the road Thursday.
"I thought tomorrow would have a little more traffic. I had few days off so thought I would get a jump on things," said Obie Bing of Manhattan, who was on his way to visit friends in Cape Cod.
Bing said he was not going to let gas prices ruin his weekend.
Rising gas prices are expected to keep more Americans at home this weekend, according to AAA. The organization says it is the first time it expects to see a decrease in travelers during the Memorial Day holiday since it started tracking the numbers in 2000.
AAA still expects more than 37 million Americans to travel 50 miles or more this weekend.
