Lawmakers mull roadway work zone legislation

Connecticut may get tougher on drivers who speed and drive recklessly through roadway work zones.
The Legislature is currently considering a proposed bill that would create stricter penalties for motorists who commit work zone offenses. State Sen. Bob Duff is one of the lawmakers pushing the legislation.
"What we want to do is we want to try to ensure that our DOT workers who are working on our highways are kept as safe as possible," says Duff.
The state Senate has until June 7 to pass the bill, which is pending approval from the state House. The legislation would increase the current $350 fine.
The bill also calls for the creation of a Highway Work Zone Advisory Council, which would make recommendations on how to improve work zone safety.
