P.I. looks into hiring of defrocked priest at church
A local private investigator was recently hired to research how a defrocked priest accused of sex abuse was hired to work in another diocese.
Vito Colucci says his clients hired him to find out why the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Stamford hired 58-year-old Albert McGoldrick. Colucci says with a few clicks of his mouse, he found McGoldrick was stripped of his priest duties in 2002 at St. Paul Parish in Greenwich after what the Bridgeport Diocese calls credible allegations of sex abuse.
According to Colucci, the Bridgeport Diocese says on its Web site that McGoldrick resigned after a man claimed the priest had molested him in 1979, when the man was 15.
?[My clients] are quite concerned that this man was working with young boys ? naïve young men from the Ukraine that are studying to be priests in this country,? Colucci says.
Several people who live near Eparchy say McGoldrick no longer works there, although he may still live in company-owned property. The Bridgeport Diocese says it informed the Eparchy of McGoldrick?s past and told them not to hire him. Calls to Eparchy were not returned.
McGoldrick?s attorney says his client has not been accused or convicted of any crime.
